Name: William “Barrio” Castro

I’ve been called an amateur photographer in a derogatory way on more than a few occasions. Rather than get all upset about it, I thought I’d just wear that badge and show a few “pros” what an amateur can do. Amateur describes me pretty well. Webster’s says an “Amateur refers to one who does something for the pleasure of it rather than for pay and often implies a relative lack of skill”. I do create images simply for the love of it and the acknowledgment of my company. I’ll let you be the judge of my skill level.

Three of my great passions in life are Photography, Extreme Sports, and Travel. I believe that travel, and Extreme Sports broadens one’s view of the world and Extremist. Experiencing cultures, getting to know people from other communities and other countries and seeing the beauty of the world has helped me understand that all of our lives are at once interconnected and individual. It has made me better appreciate my own home and culture as well as that of the people I’ve met and the lands I’ve seen and I have become a much more tolerant person as a result. Through my photography I seek to document my own personal experiences, to capture scenes and events as I see them and to share with others the beauty and diversity of the things I’ve seen. As the images of other photographers have inspired me to explore the world, I hope my own contributions will inspire others to do the same.

I view the art of photography as a distilling of reality into a personal vision. As such I often use the tools of Digital SLR Cameras, filters, digital enhancement to try to capture in an image, and the emotions I felt at the moment I triggered the camera’s shutter.

I have been involved in photography since childhood. I experienced a renewed enthusiasm and appreciation for photography after taking a basic black and white darkroom course in high school. After High school I embarked upon a series of trips Local locations, camera always in hand, which resulted in an ever growing library documenting my adventures but not as serious then like it is now. In 2010 I built a personal virtual gallery on the internet to share with family and friends and was surprised when I received my first Remark on how my work was looking upon my web site. Then, a serious hobby began to transform into a business.
